This mural was created for a show in the Diego Rivera Gallery. It is a painting that is standing in for a larger work, a collection of smiley face memorabilia, I chose this iconography because I was unaware whether or not the symbol was to make me happy or to be happy for me. Like many other symbols it has a large general meaning that can be interpreted in many different ways. By collecting these items I hope to explore the strength that the symbol gains in a larger format such as multiples, mass amounts of the symbols physicality and color, or re-presentations of the original symbol. The Mural is one of these re-presentations. I deleted the circle that contains the smiley face and color in so which the color could overcome the symbols but the size of the face remains the same. I do not know if this will make anyone happy or stand in for the viewer's happiness but it will play with the structure of the symbol that is already in place and in someway change the reading of that symbol. 2005 and Ongoing
